You're welcome
"What would you say if I wanted to knock up a local and then ask you to raise the child for me?"
You’re Welcome
The customer service in nice hotels in Tanzania is phenomenal. Each server, porter, and host gives me the impression that the one thing in life that is most fulfilling to them, is the opportunity to serve me. It seems like they are honored to do anything that makes me happy. If I'm wrong, then its either because they are amazing actors, or because I'm an egomaniac.
They dont have any acting schools in Africa, and Im a humble man, so I dont think I’m wrong.
After climbing Kilimanjaro we came back to the Arusha Safari Lodge. Its an adorable 3 acre gem in the middle of nowhere. It has only 8 cottages on perfectly manicured lawns with gorgeous plants, a pool, sun chairs, an outdoor bar, and colorful birds that fly all over the property.
Each member of the staff waited for us in a line in front of the hotel lobby as our van pulled up. It made us feel very accomplished. They were excted to greet us with fresh squeezed juices. One of the porters looked like Eddie Murphy at 18 years old with the same 80s flat top and smile. His first words to me were "You're welcome." He held his arms out and took a bow as he said it. Immediately, I felt genuinely welcome. He tried to take the bags out of my hands, but I wouldnt let him. He then tried to rip my bags out of my hands, and we struggled for a quick second, until I realized that he would not be internally fulfilled with joy unless he carried my bags for me. I decided to be unselfish and allow him to carry one bag. I wanted this nice young man to be fulfilled.
The instant the weight of my bag was on his back he looked as if he just relaxed into a jacuzzi. He was truly happy.
As we walked together towards my cottage I told him about how beautiful Kilimanjaro was. He had an ear to ear smile on his face, and I could tell he liked the idea of climbing Kili.
"Have you ever done it?" I asked
"Your welcome" He said with a big smile.
I was a bit confused, and doubted his ability to understand me, but I was in a chatty mood, so I talked his ear off like many women have done to me; without actually noticing whether or not he was listening.
He followed me to my room and stayed with me. Each time I looked at him he had a big Eddie Murphy smile, so I kept on yapping away as I unpacked my bags.
Finally I took a breath and asked him a question.
"Do you know what time dinner is served?"
He closed his eyes slowly, tilted his head down as if I had just said "thank you", and then said "You're welcome."
At this point, I was 99% certain that he had no idea what the fuck I was saying, but the joy and pleasure on his face was so intense that I didnt care. I knew that he was truly happy in my presence.
I'm a modest man, and not used to people treating me this way, but I must admit, it felt nice.
I asked him another question just to confirm "How are you doing today?
He did a slight bow, closed his eyes with a smirk and said "You're welcome."
Yep, he didnt understand a word.
If he didnt look and sound like Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" I would not have gone in the direction that i did; but I had to play around for a minute.
"Would you like me to take my clothes off right now?"
"You're welcome"
"Would it be OK if I took a shit on the floor right here?"
"You're welcome."
"I want to thank you for letting me shit myself"
"You're welcome"
"Oh, and Thank you for jerking me off"
"You're welcome"
"Can I fuck any of the staff here?"
"You're welcome"
"What would you say if I wanted to knock up a local and then ask you to raise the child for me?"
"You're welcome"
"Bro, you're the best man at my wedding"
"You're welcome"
I felt like I had been disrespectful enough to him, his country, and his lingual skills, and I started to feel like a real asshole. I walked up to him with a big smile, held out my hand, handed him 40,000 shillings (Probably his wage for 4 months) and said "thank you."
He felt the money, not knowing how much it was, closed his eyes, did a slight bow and said one final "You're welcome."
He turned to walk out the door, then he stopped at the doorway, turned back around to me and smiled. His Eddie Murphy smile filled the room, and then he spoke;
"Suh, you are de best mzungu (white man) I have met he-uh. Enjoy yuh stay at Arusha Safari Lodge. Dinnah will be suhved at seven."
